The Sailor Dress

I bought fabric back in January, but I didn’t start to work with it until a few weeks ago.

So cute, right??

Originally, this fabric was supposed to be a dress with a bateau neck in front, with a V in back.  It had fitted sleeves, and a midriff.  The pleats were at the sides of the dress.

This is what came out.

EEEEKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I look great from the side, the front was just AWFUL, and the back skirt needed work.

I took out the midriff, completely redid the sleeves into bell sleeves, did a completely new front bodice (scoop neckline).  Then, I belted it to accentuate my high waist.  I moved the pleats from the sides to all the way around.  I also shortened the heck out of it (with a 4” hem).

This is what happened.

MUCH BETTER!!!!!!  The bell sleeves did wonders!!!  What do you think?

Goodbye, for now

I can’t believe I kept this blog up for a year.  This is such an achievement for me, personally, to actually follow through on something.

But I need to take a break.  Life is challenging right now, and my personal life needs focus.  And anything I wrote would be painful and uncomfortable, and it probably shouldn’t be on the internet anyway.

Maybe I’ll pick this up again in the future, when life gets better.

For now, it’s been a blast.  I’ve loved sharing my life here.

The world is round and the place which may seem like the end may also be the beginning.

Julia’s wedding is tomorrow.  I’m working on a dress for the wedding.  I’m converting this sewing pattern into a dress - it fits me really well.  It’s version F, and the fluttery sleeves are made of black lace, and the fabric is a dark teal.  I’ll take a picture and post it on Monday.

Things are going better with Matt and me.  I’m starting to understand him better and work around the problems.  I think the dark days are almost over.  We’re thinking of doing a “Trash the dress” session and take our artsy wedding pictures.

Beth and I are planning Easter for the Mathis family.  It’s going to be so pretty!  Aren’t these bunny garlands just adorable??
