Janitor Protest at the US Bank Tower

This was across the street from the library. I think there was immigration reform thrown in.

Hernan Quintanilla, This is a Warning

If I ever see you again, I will have words with you.

You taught me so much stuff incorrectly.  You trained me in the most incompetent manner possible.

Jerk.

The Weekend

I did not get any pictures of the weekend, so words will have to suffice.

On Friday, Matt and I saw Horrible Bosses.  I loved it.  The movie was funny, just a little bit dirty (but hilarious), and well acted.  Definitely one of the better comedies of the summer – though I am eagerly anticipating Crazy Stupid Love

Saturday was a quiet day, mostly errands.  We rented Beastly to watch while we worked on wedding stuff.  It was awful.  The plot was so trite, so juvenile.  The acting was well done – but the story was too contrived.  It could have been so much better if it wasn’t so unbelievable (like set in high school).

We went bowling on Saturday night with Shanna.  Robert was supposed to come, but his girlfriend said no.  No comment, though I am dying to say something.  Bowling was fun – we played four games in two hours, and I think my highest score was a 74.  I did rather well in the first two games, but my fingers were getting so tired by the middle of the third.  Afterwards, we went to Sonic for burgers, and Shanna regaled us with her tales of Holland until very, very, very late!!

Something at Sonic did not agree with me on Sunday morning, so we stayed home from church.  I also had a migraine – no fun!  But we headed to premarital counseling out at Calvary Chapel Santa Clarita.  The session went quite well.  I daresay I had never really thought to myself, “How do I see Jesus in Matthew?” but I certainly do now – three times, as a matter of fact.  Matt was told to be gentle with me on our wedding night (EW) and that everything will work (DOUBLE EW).  Like – seriously??  It’s not like I haven’t been around the block a time or two.  Then we talked about how often we were going to have sex while married, sex drives, etc… Gahhhhh!!!!  That was a disturbing conversation.

Honestly, I’m not sure we talked about anything at the session that Matt and I hadn’t previously discussed privately.  Which, I think, is good, because it shows Matt and I were very on the ball over the past 6 months.  We didn’t dilly-dally around, saying, “Oh, I like you, wait, maybe I don’t…”  We didn’t date for two years before having the serious conversations.  (What if you found out you weren’t compatible??  That’s two years wasted!)  So I’m very happy that we already have all this down pat.

I think the only area that we really differ is how to raise our future children.  We both come from very strict homes, and while Matt and his siblings have turned out all right (maybe), Bethany and I did not.  Since I have turned out to be very much like my mother (I inherited her temper and passive aggressive tendencies), I know I need to avoid acting like my mother did with me.  Mom did her very best – there’s no doubt about that.  But it’s really helpful to have seen Mom and Dad raise Kimberlee in a less strict fashion.  I definitely favor it – I think it’s better for everyone in our family.  So this is something that the pastor encouraged us to really discuss during counseling.  I’m going to have Matt read Have a New Kid by Friday and Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours

Anyway – back to work.  This is turning out to be another light week… not very much fun.

Happy Friday

Horrible Bosses comes out, and Matt got a job.  J  It is in Simi Valley, and he will earn $15.50/hour – more than me!  J

This weekend: premarital counseling on Sunday, bowling with Shanna and Robert on Saturday.

Birthday Weekend

On Friday, Mom made pizza for dinner, and then we had Election Cake.  During the 1800's - not sure which decade - Election Cake was given to persons who voted a straight ticket.  Election Cake has figs and walnuts in it.
On Saturday, we went to Gina's house.  Jocelyn, Robert, and Andrew came over.  It was fun.  The boys played Twister.
On Sunday, we went to church, then to Trinity's softball game.  After, we went back to the Cuff house.  Trinity, Matt, and I went swimming for a little bit, then we got ready for Dave's party.  The party was very fun, but I was exhausted, and I took a nap on Matt's bed for a few hours, then he took me home.  Sharon has pictures - I'll try to get them.
Today, Matt has an interview in Lynwood.  I'm excited for him, and I hope it goes well.  Lynwood is 12 miles from my house, but it's 36 miles from his house.  I wish it wasn't so far for him to drive, but I want him to get it so we can live in Orange County after we get married.  Most of my friends are moving to Irvine over the next six months, and I would like to live in Irvine.  It's an absolutely beautiful area, and one of the safest cities in the United States.  It's the kind of city where the police get called to get a cat out of a tree, not for a bank robbery.
Matt really wants to live in the Valley, though.  If we live up there, we will live in North Hollywood or Burbank.  But Irvine - ah, that would be wonderful.

Start of a birthday weekend

So.  Last night I left my badge in Matt's car.  I called him at 5:57 AM, and I wailed, "I left my badge in your car!!!"  After 20 minutes of negotiations, Matt said he was meeting me before work to give me my badge.

So when I came up from the Pershing Square station, Matt was across the street, with my badge in hand, and a bouquet of purple tulips, since tomorrow is my birthday.

Then he walked me to work, where we kissed for about three minutes on the steps of the skyscraper where I work.  (OK - so now you know my approximate area.  You really think I'm telling you the name of the skyscraper? ;)  Gotta be kidding!)

My life is like a movie.  :)  Seriously.  And Matt is the most wonderful man in the whole world.

My coworkers also brought cupcakes.  This is going to be an awesome birthday.

A Shark in the Water

I have realized that I cannot trust my own judgment of people.

On first impression, I generally like the "snake in the grass" and distrust the "knight in shining armor."

This isn't quite always the case, because I tend to like everyone, but if there are two partners in a job, I tend to not like the good guy, usually for reasons like, "He's overly friendly."

Here at work, we have a shark in the water.  Someone that took advantage of an honest mistake that anyone could have made.

I have 40 weeks left.  It can't come fast enough.
