The Weekend, Revisited

Thanksgiving was awesome.  Except for being sick the whole time.  Wednesday night was Gina’s potluck, and hers was hands down the best turkey.  She put fruit in it as it baked, so that might be what did it.  After that, we went home and I worked until about 4 AM on packing.  I couldn’t sleep – too congested.  So I worked until I was exhausted, and then I slept.

On Thanksgiving, we had my family get together, which was fun, except I laid down for most of it.  Then we had Matt’s family gathering.  I watched The Grinch while everyone baked, and then ate, and then slept until time to go home.

The morning after, we took all my old kitchen supplies and signed the lease!!!!  Dan from church helped us move a bed from Long Beach (barely used Ikea box spring and mattress - $60!), so that was super helpful.  We went to Target and used all our gift cards from the wedding shower to buy sheets (no one gave us sheets?  What?) and a comforter and a good amount of cleaning and laundry supplies.  Since, like, we have to start cleaning in a week.  Because I am not letting the apartment get dirty.  (Well, a little.  But controllably.)

On Saturday after a lovely breakfast at Denny’s (we not allowed to eat out until Valentine’s Day – we both gained a lot of weight over the past 6 months since we have been eating out WAY too much), I took the train home, and wrote out all the thank-you cards for the showers.  Yay!!!  J  My hand really hurt after that.*

Anyway, after that, I held a bridesmaid’s tea, which was lovely, and we got everything squared away.  Then Matt came over, and we had dinner with my parents, and we washed dishes for them, and then we got The Maltese Falcon at Blockbuster.  Matt liked it.  I fell asleep about 10 minutes in.  (I’ve seen it before, and I think it is excellent!)

On Sunday, Matt had projection, so we left early for church.  After that, we came back to the house and did crafting all afternoon, except when we stopped to get groceries for Matt for the week.  I cut all the fringe streamers.  Mike and Beth came over and helped, and that was really sweet and awesome.

Here are a couple pictures of the apartment.  The first is the kitchen, and how small it is.  I want Matt to either build or buy a large cabinet to use as a pantry.  We have the space for that

The second picture is of the bed… Pretty purple comforter!

* And also – if you are reading this, and I accidentally said thank-you for the wrong thing (which I really tried not to do), it’s because at the last shower, Matt and I were not allowed to open gifts at the shower, and so we did so while pumping gas after the shower (cuz we were super excited, right?), and I took all the cards out and read them all on the way home that night, and so everyone’s card got separated from their gift…  Now, if we had opened the presents at the shower, I would have had someone make a list of who got what.  Like people normally do at showers.  So, I’m really sorry if I think you for, like, sheets, when you didn’t get me sheets (no one did – just an example – and I’m not upset that no one got us sheets, so don’t think that!  I happen to know we are getting some as a Christmas present).  But I’m pretty sure I got it all straight!!

The Weekend, Amazing

This weekend was fabulous.

On Friday, we celebrated Kim’s graduation from Kindergarten, and then we saw Breaking Dawn with Gina, Robert, and Jocelyn.

On Saturday, Gina and I went to Vegas.  We stayed at MGM, and had a fantastic time.

At the Coca Cola store – a Barq’s Red Crème Soda Float.

At the Sugar Factory – they put dry ice in their drinks to make it fog.

A barbershop quartet that was freaking amazing!

It was raining on our way home.  In the Cajon pass, we could barely see two car lengths ahead.

On Sunday night, we had a bridal shower.  It was quite fun.

Sunrise this morning.

The holidays are upon us.  Tonight I am taking sweet potatoes to Gina’s house for a gathering there, and then tomorrow we have my family’s gathering in mid-day, and Matt’s family gathering in the evening.  Then, we will come back to my house, because we have to pack all my stuff for moving!   Yes, we get our keys on Friday.  We are trying to arrange to move almost everything Friday, so then we won’t have to borrow trucks or anything except for the one day.  Also because we are super duper busy through New Year’s!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

Thursday Morning

This morning, the commute to work was blocked horrifically.  Why?  Because there is currently a huge Occupy LA protest going on right outside my building.  Now I understand being angry about the economy.  I, too, was told that I could major in whatever I wanted, get whatever job I wanted, at a starting salary of 40K a year.  That didn’t exactly happen.  But seriously – spending taxpayer money on police officers and traffic control is not good.  Think of all the waste coming from this protest – and exactly what good is going to come of it??  Pray, tell me, what they hope to achieve.

33 days out

I have not written in nearly two weeks.  I have half finished posts in my “drafts” folder, but somehow, I haven’t seemed to find time to complete them.

The past 10 days have been a whirlwind of activity.  Wedding projects are being completed; we went through a major software update at work, so that was moderately stressful.  There’s a new position opening at work, a permanent position, and my chances are about 50/50.  I’m not sure I want the job.  It’s highly stressful, with absolutely no downtime.  The others in the same job regularly skip lunches and breaks to complete half of their workload.  I’m not sure that I could successfully work in that job.

I also have cold feet.  I have it really bad.  The kind where you start dreaming about your ex’s, where you have panic attacks while trying on your veil, where even thinking about the vows give you hot flashes.  I never thought I would be the person to get cold feet.  I thought I would be nonchalant and casual.  But it’s the standinguptherebeforehundredsofpeopleandohmygoodnesswhatiftheyHATEit???

I seriously cannot wait until this ends.

Reflections, Six Weeks Out

Six weeks to go.  It feels like a really long time, but I’m trying not to trick myself and let myself procrastinate.  There are a lot of things to finish for the wedding.  My dress from China came (2 ½ weeks early!  Thank you Jesus!), but the bodice is a little loose, and I need to see if adding padding plus tightening the corset will fix the problem, or if I have to pay for alterations (which tend to be expensive).  I need to do some minor work with the appliqués, plus add a bustle.

My veil still needs to be finished.  The problem is, I’m not sure where I’m going with it.  Très difficult.  I haven’t even begun to work on the card box, the bunting is halfway done, the aisle décor needs another 6 things, and the butterflies have to get finished.  Plus I want to finish the jewelry for the girls, and their bridesmaid bags.  I also need to make food labels for the reception, and the programs… well, they won’t get done until the week before anyway.  Oh, and I need more cupcake stands, and I realized we need tablecloths for the food tables, so we need to go thrift store shopping…

This.  Never.  Ends.
